Syrians: NATO-backed Militants Seen Donning Gas Masks

Reports of Libyan chemical weapons brought in through Turkey, caches discovered in Damascus point to possible false flag.
by Tony Cartalucci

July 27, 2012 - For a Western media so fond of reporting "activist" accounts, rumors, and even fabrications, and with all the talk of an impending "massacre" in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, reports of so-called "Free Syrian Army" militants seen trying on gas masks, along with reports of Libyan chemical weapon caches & equipment being discovered in Damascus is surely headline news.

Images: (Top) FSA fighters, one on the left wearing a "Jihadist" headband, another on the right trying on a military-grade gas mask, were reportedly photographed in Aleppo, Syria. (Bottom) Chemical weapons and equipment from Libya have been reportedly discovered as troops search areas of Damascus after quelling last week's militant attack.
....

Many Syrians and outside observers alike, fear that militants may deploy chemical weapons in one or more locations around Syria, creating a mass-casualty event to subsequently be blamed on the government by a coordinated Western media disinformation campaign. The so-called "Free Syrian Army" (FSA) has already been conducting strings of devastating, indiscriminate mass-casualty bombings across the country, as reported by Reuters', "Outgunned Syria rebels make shift to bombs."

Libyan weapons, cash, and fighters have also all been confirmed to have made it into Syria in an effort to undermine, divide and destroy Syria.

The London Telegraph reported in its article, "Libya’s new rulers offer weapons to Syrian rebels:"

"There is something being planned to send weapons and even Libyan fighters to Syria," said a Libyan source, speaking on condition of anonymity. "There is a military intervention on the way. Within a few weeks you will see."
The Telegraph has also learned that preliminary discussions about arms supplies took place when members of the Syrian National Council [SNC] – the country's main opposition movement – visited Libya earlier this month.
Albawaba reported in its article, "Libyan fighters join "free Syrian army" forces," that:

Libyan sources conveyed in recent days that 600 rebel fighters have already gone from Libya to Syria in order to support the Syrian opposition.
Albawaba's report would later be confirmed by multiple Western media representatives now on the ground in Aleppo, Syria, including CNN which reported:
Meanwhile, residents of the village where the Syrian Falcons were headquartered said there were fighters of several North African nationalities also serving with the brigade's ranks.
A volunteer Libyan fighter has also told CNN he intends to travel from Turkey to Syria within days to add a "platoon" of Libyan fighters to armed movement.
 CNN also added:
On Wednesday, CNN’s crew met a Libyan fighter who had crossed into Syria from Turkey with four other Libyans. The fighter wore full camouflage and was carrying a Kalashnikov rifle. He said more Libyan fighters were on the way.

The foreign fighters, some of them are clearly drawn because they see this as … a jihad. So this is a magnet for jihadists who see this as a fight for Sunni Muslims.
Clearly Libyan terrorists and their weapons have made it into Syria with the explicit backing of NATO's recently installed client Libyan regime.  The London Guardian had reported that Libya possessed some "25 metric tonnes of bulk mustard agent and 1,400 metric tonnes of precursor chemical used to make chemical weapons." The Guardian also reported:
The abandonment or disappearance of some Gaddafi-era weapons has prompted concerns that such firepower could erode regional security if it falls into the hands of Islamist militants or rebels active in north Africa.
Clearly those "Islamist militants" as well as "rebels active in north Africa" are now on the ground in Syria. These militants bringing pilfered chemical weapons with them is entirely plausible, as is the possibility that these weapons were purposefully placed into their hands by either NATO or Libya's current ruling regime. This very scenario was warned against last month in an article published by Russia Today titled, "Syrian rebels aim to use chemical weapons, blame Damascus – report."

Why Isn't the Western Media Investigating These Claims?

It should be remembered a single "tweet" from BBC's Ian Pannell in Aleppo claiming "fighter jets have bombed eastern Aleppo," triggered media hysteria. Pannell would expand on his earlier, unconfirmed, unsubstantiated claim by declaring, "what appeared to be Russian-made MiG planes arced through the sky. We watched as they dropped in, bombing and strafing rebel positions."

It would later turn out that the planes Pannell observed were not "MiG planes," where not "Russian-made," and were not even "bombing" rebel positions. They were trainer planes carrying out reconnaissance and at most, deploying gun-fire on rebel trucks mounted with heavy weapons.

Image: A sole"tweet" from BBC's Ian Pannell, now a confirmed fabrication, immediately made headlines across the Western media.
....

If one "tweet" is worth 3 news cycles, even when the report was both difficult to believe at face-value, and quickly turned out to be a fabrication - why isn't the Western media covering pictures and witness accounts of FSA militants apparently preparing to deploy chemical weapons inside and around Syria's major cities?

The answer is simple, reporting bombers that don't exist allowed the White House to claim, "the Syrian government's assault on the city of Aleppo with tanks and airplanes illustrates "the depth of depravity" by the regime of President Bashar Assad."

Similarly, by allowing claims of FSA militants preparing to deploy chemical weapons to go unreported, affords the West an opportunity to then blame the mass-casualty event that may follow on the Syrian government, thus providing an attractive opportunity for militarily intervene. That the media and governments of the West have not publicly looked into recent claims that the FSA is contemplating a false flag, weapons of mass destruction attack, makes them complicit should such an attack unfold. It will also make it all but impossible for the US to attempt to blame Libya and "Al Qaeda" alone if their dark deed is carried out, but subsequently exposed.

US Treasury: Al Qaeda Runs Syrian "Rebellion"

US fails to sell militants in Syria as "freedom fighters," tells truth for pretext to liquidate monsters of their own creation.
by Tony Cartalucci

July 27, 2012 - The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) in its article, "Al Qaeda's War for Syria," cited officials from the US Treasury Department stating, "Al Qaeda in Syria (often operating as the "Al Nusra Front for the People of the Levant") is using traffickers—some ideologically aligned, some motivated by money—to secure routes through Turkey and Iraq for foreign fighters, most of whom are from the Middle East and North Africa. A growing number of donors from the Persian Gulf and Levant appear to be sending financial support."

Photo: The "Free Syrian Army," whose composition consists of not only Syrian sectarian extremists, but Libyan terrorists from the US State Department listed "Libyan Islamic Fighting Group" led by Abdul Hakim Belhaj, is the manifestation of years of US, Saudi, and Israeli aid since at least 2007.

....

This undercuts the West's year and a half-long narrative that Syria's violence was the result of a so-called "uprising" by the people of Syria. While the WJS attempts to downplay this admission by claiming, "al Qaeda makes up a small part of the resistance movement," it concedes that, "its strength appears to be rising." In reality, it was Al Qaeda militants from the very beginning, and the only aspect of the conflict "rising" is public awareness of this fact.

Since 2007, US Aided and Abetted Al Qaeda Affiliates Against Syria

As early as 2007, veteran journalist Seymour Hersh wrote in his New Yorker article "The Redirection," that:

"To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administration has decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the Middle East. In Lebanon, the Administration has coöperated with Saudi Arabia’s government, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations that are intended to weaken Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is backed by Iran. The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda." -The Redirection, Seymour Hersh (2007)
Hersh's report would also include:
"the Saudi government, with Washington’s approval, would provide funds and logistical aid to weaken the government of President Bashir Assad, of Syria. The Israelis believe that putting such pressure on the Assad government will make it more conciliatory and open to negotiations." -The Redirection, Seymour Hersh (2007)
The 2007 article also warned about the inevitable consequences of arming radical sectarian extremists, with CIA operators in Lebanon warning of mass murder, sectarian violence, and specifically the targeting of Christian minorities across the Levant (the region along the Mediterranean Sea including Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, and Syria):
"Robert Baer, a former longtime C.I.A. agent in Lebanon, has been a severe critic of Hezbollah and has warned of its links to Iranian-sponsored terrorism. But now, he told me, “we’ve got Sunni Arabs preparing for cataclysmic conflict, and we will need somebody to protect the Christians in Lebanon. It used to be the French and the United States who would do it, and now it’s going to be Nasrallah and the Shiites" -The Redirection, Seymour Hersh (2007)
Now, demonstrably, we see exactly this feared onslaught manifesting itself in Syria, in particular against Christians as indicated in LA Times' "Church fears 'ethnic cleansing' of Christians in Homs, Syria," and more recently in USA Today's distorted, but still telling, "Christians in Syria live in uneasy alliance with Assad, Alawites." Even the massacre in Houla, seems to echo of this 2007 warning, bearing all the hallmarks of sectarian extremists like Al Qaeda.

Not only did the United States government, with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Israel's aid, knowingly assemble a sectarian extremist front affiliated with Al Qaeda, not from within Syria, but from beyond its borders, it knew well in advance the destructive consequences such a foreign policy would yield.

The US government has since willfully lied to the both the American people and the world regarding the true nature of the violence unfolding in Syria, and with the help of the corporate-media, is attempting to spin the forewarned consequences of their long-planned conspiracy as merely an unfortunate by-product of a spontaneous conflict.

A Foreign Invasion, not a Rebellion

The WSJ's article begins with the sentence, "the United States and its allies should consider opening a second front in the Syrian war. In addition to helping end Bashar Assad's rule, there is a growing need to conduct a covert campaign against al Qaeda and other extremist groups gaining a presence in the country."

In essence, we are being told that the militant extremists the US assembled against Syria have failed to overthrow the government, so the US should intervene on the pretext of liquidating the very terrorists they conspired to send, funded and armed, and have been supporting since the very beginning.

The very logistical "routes" through Turkey the WSJ claims Al Qaeda is using to flood into Syria with militants and weapons, are admittedly organized by the US through its CIA intelligence apparatus. The New York Times article, "C.I.A. Said to Aid in Steering Arms to Syrian Opposition," states clearly that:

A small number of C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey, helping allies decide which Syrian opposition fighters across the border will receive arms to fight the Syrian government, according to American officials and Arab intelligence officers.
The NYT continues:
The weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, the officials said.
Likewise, in the Washington Post's article, "Syrian rebels get influx of arms with gulf neighbors’ money, U.S. coordination," it is reported:

Syrian rebels battling the regime of President Bashar al-Assad have begun receiving significantly more and better weapons in recent weeks, an effort paid for by Persian Gulf nations and coordinated in part by the United States, according to opposition activists and U.S. and foreign officials.
We are now expected to forget these admissions, or believe that Al Qaeda is slipping past CIA officers "operating secretly in southern Turkey," and that only by coincidence they are armed with the very weapons and resources the US, Saudis, and Qataris have pledged to supply the so-called "Free Syrian Army" with.  Turkey, it should be remembered, is a NATO member - that Al Qaeda is swarming within and along its borders belies 10 years of "War on Terror" mythology.

The "Free Syrian Army" does include sectarian extremists from within Syria, mostly drawn from the banned, sectarian Muslim Brotherhood movement which has sought to destroy secular society across the Arab World for decades. But the vast majority of the fighters flowing into Aleppo in the north, and who had recently attempted to overrun Damascus in the south, are foreign fighters, armed by foreign sponsors, invading and conducting armed attacks on populated Syrian cities.

Image: "A lot of them were bald and many had beards. Many wore white sports shoes and army pants," said an alleged "defected officer" of the perpetrators of the "Houla Massacre." An apt description of the NATO-armed sectarian terrorists that ravaged Libya before traveling to Syria (here, here, and here) to continue their campaign of extremist-driven genocide. (click image to enlarge)
....

Reports months ago indicated that Libyan militants had been making their way to Syria by the hundreds, flush with cash and weapons recently received from NATO during their own operation to overrun and destroy Libya. As many as 600 Libyan terrorists were reported to have reached Syria by late 2011.

Now as Western media houses embed their representatives within terrorist bands crossing the Turkish-Syrian border, and as these terrorists find their way into Aleppo and amongst a population capable of revealing their identity to the world, slowly the admissions are trickling out that indeed entire "platoons" of North African fighters are involved in the misleadingly titled, "rebellion."

CNN, whose Ivan Watson accompanied these terrorists over the Turkish-Syrian border and into Aleppo, revealed that indeed foreign fighters were amongst the militants. It was admitted that:

CNN's reports provide bookends to earlier admissions that large numbers of Libyan terrorists flush with NATO cash and weapons had headed to Syria, with notorious terrorist commanders making the arrangements.

West Used Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Libya, Is Using Al Qaeda Now in Syria

By all accounts, including admissions by former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and former National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski, Osama Bin Laden's organization that would become Al Qaeda was created by the West during the Soviet-Afghan war in in the late 70's and throughout the 80's. The US and Saudi funding of these militants did not begin after the Soviet invasion, but actually several years before the invasion. US intervention in Afghanistan by training and arming Afghanistan's Mujaheddin, along with Osama Bin Laden's Arab fighters, is one of the leading factors that led to the murderous and protracted decade-long war, according to the Nation in an article titled, "Blowback, the Prequel."

Photo: Former US National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski organizing the CIA's Arab legionaries, which would later become Al Qaeda, in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region in the early 80's. Al Qaeda would later spin off into regional terrorist organizations, covertly armed, trained, and protected by the CIA to this day, including LIFG in Libya, MEK in Iraq and Iran, and Baluchi terrorists in Pakistan.
....

Since then, Al Qaeda has conveniently provided both a well-armed, capable proxy force, as well as a sufficiently terrifying boogeyman, giving Wall Street and London access to nations it could otherwise never justify intervening in.

The very militant leader of the "Tripoli Brigade" who secured Libya's capital just in time for US dignitaries to visit, was Abdul Hakim Belhaj, commander of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), listed on the US State Department's roster of "Foreign Terrorist Organizations" (#28). In fact, several reports out of West Point's Combating Terrorism Center (CTC) illustrated how not only LIFG was actively leading NATO-backed regime change in Libya, but was involved in fighting Western troops and locals in both Afghanistan and Iraq - disrupting legitimate resistance, and providing a continuous pretext to maintain Western occupation.

That Belhaj almost immediately after overthrowing Libya's government, began organizing operations to bring in fighters, weapons, and cash to Syria, indicates that, just as Al Qaeda was used from its very inception by the US and Saudis to fight Soviets in Afghanistan, it is still a valuable tool in executing Western foreign policy.

Essentially, the so-called "War on Terror" is a fraud, the belligerents on both sides fueled by the West as a means of establishing military, economic, and political hegemony in otherwise unapproachable targeted nations. When Al Qaeda cannot sufficiently overrun a targeted nation as a proxy "foreign legion" of Western interests (Libya), its presence, facilitated by the West in the first place, is then cited as a "casus belli" for military intervention (Afghanistan).

Now, it appears that the West's Arab "foreign legion," Al Qaeda, is about to suffer an unprecedented defeat - not at the hands of Western anti-terrorism forces, but at the hands of Syrian troops in the city of Aleppo. In a desperate effort to prevent this, the West is employing a series of desperate strategies ranging from portraying the trapped foreign-fighters committing atrocities inside Aleppo as "pending a certain massacre," to using the very presence of these foreign-fighters as evidence "Al Qaeada" is operating in Syria and must be "stopped" by Western intervention.

It is essential to understand that, as empires have always done, the monolithic corporate-financier interests of the West seek regional hegemony as a step toward global domination, and will say and do anything in order to achieve it. As resistance increases, the West's lies become more difficult to sell, the consistency of their propaganda overtly crumbling. The West, in nearly a single breath, has now claimed FSA fighters are both "Al Qaeda" that need to be eliminated, while also impeding a "massacre" by Syrian forces if something isn't done to save them.

When US President Obama referred to the "depths of depravity" regarding Syrian security operations in Aleppo, he and his script writers do so with the belief that Americans, and the world, are ignorant and disinterested in the truth, and will gladly allow Western foreign policy to once again prey on their emotions and good intentions to sell yet another destructive, self-serving military intervention.

NATO Terrorists Execute Civilians While Waiting for Syrian Army

NATO-backed militants execute civilians as they await impending battle in Aleppo, Syria.
by Tony Cartalucci

July 26, 2012 - For many months, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has depicted the militants creating havoc across his nation as "armed gangs," "foreign terrorists," and simply just, "terrorists." During a 2011 interview in Damascus with Barbra Walters, Walters feigned indignation when hearing these labels, insisting that these were people simply seeking "democracy" and "freedom."

It turns out months later, it was President Assad who has been vindicated, and Walters' disrespectful, curt condemnation exposed as the same brand of war propaganda that has mired the West in over a decade of ceaseless, bloody, bankrupting wars and interventions.

The FSA are Terrorists

AFP now reports that the so-called "Free Syrian Army" (FSA) militants who had attempted to overrun the city of Aleppo in Syria's north on July 17, in coordination with an assassination bombing and a similar militant attack on Damascus, are now trapped in the city center, awaiting Syrian Army reinforcements expected to close in and neutralize them. An AFP correspondent embedded with the terrorists reported that, "two men, accused of belonging to pro-government "shabiha" militia, were summarily dispatched in the street, each with a bullet to the head."

By this of course AFP means, two civilians were rounded up and shot in the head - killed in cold blood in the streets.

BBC's Ian Pannell also rode in with FSA terrorists during the initial attack on Aleppo, which is by all accounts a pro-Army, pro-Syrian city. Pannell described scenes of FSA militants "seeking revenge" as they too rounded up men "suspected" of being "shabiha." The men were unarmed, terrified, and had weapons discharged at their feet as they knelt on the ground. Pannell doesn't tell us if this group of men were "dispatched" as well, preferring to paper over what appeared to be an atrocity in the making by stating, "there is little justice on either side."

It appears the term suspected "shabiha" has become analogous of the Western media's use of the term "African mercenaries" in Libya during NATO destabilization and regime change operations there last year. These "African mercenaries" were lynched, beheaded, shot, burned, and hacked to pieces, just as the FSA is now doing to suspected "shabiha."

Photo: Images and reports eventually trickled out as NATO-backed genocide unfolded throughout Tripoli's streets, indicating the destruction of infrastructure and the specific targeting of black Libyans written off by the corporate media as "suspected mercenaries." Benghazi rebels have been long reported to harbor extremist ideologies and an intense ethnic & racial hatred.
....

It would later turn out these black Africans were not mercenaries, but citizens who had lived in Libya for generations fighting desperately for their lives against sectarian extremists intolerant of their complexion and creed. Likewise, suspected "shabiha" are Syrians unwilling or unable, because of their ethnicity or creed, to capitulate to roving bands of foreign-armed sectarian extremists.

The FSA Include Foreign-Fighters

CNN, whose Ivan Watson also accompanied FSA terrorists over the Turkish-Syrian border and into Aleppo revealed that indeed foreign fighters were amongst the militants. It was admitted that:

CNN's reports provide bookends to earlier admissions that large numbers of Libyan terrorists flush with NATO cash and weapons had headed to Syria with known terrorist commanders making the arrangements.

Western Media is Complicit in Covering Up War Crimes

Not only are these FSA militants committing atrocities, they are doing so in front of representatives of Western media, who are demonstrably excusing, covering up, or downplaying their war crimes. Additionally, these media personalities are attempting to downplay the significant implications of foreign-fighters crossing Syria's borders and conducting armed attacks on a heavily populated city - implications that run contra to the West's narrative regarding their support of the FSA against the Syrian state.

By doing so they've become accomplices, providing impunity for the actions of terrorists, and allowing the governments of the United States, Britain, France, Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, an ignoble alliance, to continue fueling this violent, foreign-contrived band of militants. And by doing so, these media representatives have undermined their journalistic immunity, putting the lives of real journalists the world over at risk.

Image: An approximation of areas where fighting has been taking place in Aleppo, Syria. Clearly during the initial offensive by the FSA, they came in from 2 of the city's main highways, both leading to the Turkish-Syrian border. It appears that a large number of fighters have been trapped inside the center of the city, surrounded by Syrian military forces. This was not an "uprising" but rather an invasion by armed militants from across the Turkish-Syrian border. It is unclear whether a significant number of additional militants are on their way.
....

And it will be this corps of professional deceivers who continue their efforts to pave way for wider NATO intervention to fulfill US ambitions to carve out "safe havens" in northern Syria form which to prolong the current bloodbath.

Perhaps this is why Russia - condemned by these very nations for its "inaction" in supporting the subversion of Syria - stated quite clearly that the West, specifically the US, was "justifying terrorism against the Syrian government."

The West is hemorrhaging legitimacy and finds itself in an untenable position where it can neither go forward nor back without incurring tremendous, catastrophic consequences - consequences millions of people across the Middle East as well as across the West will pay for in blood and treasure. It should be remembered who exactly brought us to this precipice and why - corporate-financier interests, their stables of policy makers, and the corporate-media - all for the sake of pursuing narrow-minded, self-serving geopolitical hegemony.

CONFIRMED: Turkey Running Proxy-Invasion of Syria

Admits hosting foreign fighters seeking to enter Syria, trucks in weapons to rearm terrorist groups.
by Tony Cartalucci

July 26, 2012 - The Washington Post has just published an article with the very misleading titled, "Turkey a hub for Syria revolution as illegal border crossing points abound," in which it describes "Salafi Muslims," who have "come to offer help from the countries of the Persian Gulf region" arming and joining the so-called "Free Syrian Army." The article also claims "weapons are ferried into Syria, delivered by Turkish military trucks and picked up by fighters on the other side in the dead of night."

A more apt title would be, "Turkey hosts invading Saudi and Qatari mercenary army."

This confirms earlier reports featured in the New York Times and the Washington Post, that not only are the Gulf States of Saudi Arabia and Qatar funding and arming militants via Turkey, but that the US is coordinating the logistical aspects of the operation as well.

Likewise, CNN has attempted to spin concessions made by its own Ivan Watson, traveling with sectarian extremists into Syria, where it was admitted:
Meanwhile, residents of the village where the Syrian Falcons were headquartered said there were fighters of several North African nationalities also serving with the brigade's ranks.
A volunteer Libyan fighter has also told CNN he intends to travel from Turkey to Syria within days to add a "platoon" of Libyan fighters to armed movement.
 CNN has now added:

On Wednesday, CNN’s crew met a Libyan fighter who had crossed into Syria from Turkey with four other Libyans. The fighter wore full camouflage and was carrying a Kalashnikov rifle. He said more Libyan fighters were on the way.

The foreign fighters, some of them are clearly drawn because they see this as … a jihad. So this is a magnet for jihadists who see this as a fight for Sunni Muslims.

CNN then attempts to claim the "real" Syrian "revolutionaries" "do not want an Islamist political agenda to be mixed in with their revolution."

Photo: The face of Libya's "revolution" was literally Al Qaeda. Abdul Hakim Belhaj, commander of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) listed by the US State Department as a "Foreign Terrorists Organization," was armed and backed by NATO (including the US) in his efforts to topple the government of Libya. Belhaj more recently pledged (NATO) weapons, cash, and Libyan militants to the "Free Syrian Army."
 ....

Unfortunately for CNN, despite its best efforts, it cannot qualify its claim that these foreign fighters are "unwanted," - for the so-called "Free Syrian Army" (FSA) has long since exposed itself as a sectarian extremist front infiltrated with foreign fighters and foreign weapons, stretching back as far as 2007

Saudis and Qataris Attempt "Arab League-UN" Rescue of Faltering Mercenaries

Perhaps as a sign the Gulf States of Saudi Arabia and Qatar are stretched to the limits of their ability to covertly undermine Syria, they have announced plans to seek "UN General Assembly action" for a "political transition and establishment of a democratic government in Syria." For the despotic, unelected, grandiose nepotism of Saudi Arabia and Qatar to call for a "democratic government in Syria" is truly a move made as much out of desperation as it is one of farcical hypocrisy.

Image: In "progressive" Saudi Arabia, who is calling for a "democratic transition" in Syria, women are not even allowed to drive, let alone vote for their leaders - who with Qatar, are amongst the few remaining absolute monarchies on Earth.
....

Both Gulf State nations are run by absolute monarchies - some of the only kind still left in the world. In Saudi Arabia, not only are elections out of the question, but women are in fact, prohibited from even driving. How the Saudis themselves are not subject to UN resolutions, open condemnations, sanctions of all kinds, and ultimatums over their own dictatorship is a true indication of the bankrupted, hypocritical, self-serving dysfunction that punctuates a Western corporate-financier dominated "international order." It is an "international community" that creates the illusion of urgency and injustice when it seeks to expand its interests into one nation, but conveniently ignores real injustice when it jeopardizes their interests elsewhere.

Turkey Supports Subversion of Syria, While Crushing Dissent at Home

Turkey itself has been waging a decades-long bloody campaign against its own armed uprising in predominately Kurdish areas bordering Syria, Iraq, and Iran. In fact, at one point, the US allowed Turkish tanks to cross into American-occupied Iraq to attack villages suspected of harboring armed Kurdish separatists in 2008, mirroring the very tactics Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is now condemning Syria for. The Guardian reported in their 2008 article, "Iraq demands Turkey withdraw from border conflict with Kurds," that the conflict had been raging since 1984 and had cost the lives of 40,000 people.

Turkey has in recent weeks, violated Iraq's airspace in order to strafe and bomb Kurdish villages inside Iraqi territory. Iraq has lodged a complaint with the UN Security Council - a complaint likely to go unnoticed.

One can only imagine the "threat" Syria would be portrayed as if it were to likewise strafe and bomb targets beyond its borders in pursuit of now admittedly foreign-armed, foreign fighters invading its country via Turkey. Turkey, a NATO member since 1952, would most likely invoke "Chapter V" of NATO's treaty, a mutual defense clause that makes an attack on one alliance member an attack on all members - thus opening up the door for more direct foreign military intervention.

Turkey's ruling government led by PM Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is in fact undermining its own national security by running errands for NATO versus Syria. By supporting foreign terrorists invading neighboring Syria, it undermines the legitimacy of its own campaign against Kurdish rebels within its borders, not to mention beyond them. Turkey's current stance vis-a-vis Syria is not shared by all members of Turkey's government, and at this critical stage, now more than ever they need to make their voices heard both to the Turkish people and to the people of the world.

Carving Out "Safe Havens" for the US State Department's SNC

The ultimate goal of inundating Syria with foreign fighters and weapons while Saudi Arabia and Qatar farcically call for a "democratic transition" in Syria is to create a "safe haven" from which the US State Department coached and directed "Syrian National Council" (SNC) can rule from - further dividing and undermining the Syrian nation-state.

This geopolitical objective was first summarized in the Fortune 500-funded Brookings Institution's March 2012 Middle East Memo #21 "Assessing Options for Regime Change (.pdf) and recently reiterated almost verbatim by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The US foreign-policy think-tank, Brookings Institution blueprinted designs for regime change in Libya as well as both Syria and Iran. In their report, "Assessing Options for Regime Change" it is specifically stated (emphasis added):

"An alternative is for diplomatic efforts to focus first on how to end the violence and how to gain humanitarian access, as is being done under Annan’s leadership. This may lead to the creation of safe-havens and humanitarian corridors, which would have to be backed by limited military power. This would, of course, fall short of U.S. goals for Syria and could preserve Asad in power. From that starting point, however, it is possible that a broad coalition with the appropriate international mandate could add further coercive action to its efforts." -page 4, Assessing Options for Regime Change, Brookings Institution.

Image: Also out of the Brookings Institution, Middle East Memo #21 "Assessing Options for Regime Change (.pdf)," makes no secret that the humanitarian "responsibility to protect" is but a pretext for long-planned regime change.
....

The Brookings Institution's "safe havens" and "humanitarian corridors" are meant to be established by NATO-member Turkey, who had been threatening to partially invade Syria in order to accomplish this. And while Turkey claims this is based on "humanitarian concerns," examining Turkey's abysmal human rights record in addition to its own ongoing armed campaign against the Kurdish people both within and beyond its borders, it is clear they are simply fulfilling the agenda established by their Western patrons on Wall Street and in the city of London.

There is still extreme danger that with Aleppo still under threat by foreign fighters and the so-called "Free Syrian Army," NATO is preparing cross-border provocations to justify the "limited military power" Brookings calls for in establishing its prescribed "safe havens." Fabricated "massacres," "humanitarian crisis," and false flag attacks involving chemical weapons are also pretexts the West might use for a limited military incursions into Syria in an attempt to cripple its military and lend its militant proxies a "safe haven" in Syria to rule over.

In Syria - How to "Liberate" a Pro-Army City?

NATO Terrorists Come to Overrun, Not "Liberate," Aleppo.
by Tony Cartalucci

July 25, 2012 - A pivotal conflict is unfolding in northern Syria in the city of Aleppo - one told with two narratives. For the Western media, speaking on behalf of US foreign policy and the corporate-financier interests behind both their "journalism" and the subversion of Syria, the "Battle for Aleppo" constitutes brave "pro-democracy" fighters rising up in the streets of the ancient city to do battle with invading "regime thugs." This despite a year and a half of reporting Aleppo as admittedly a pro-government bastion.

This was not an "uprising" but rather an invasion by armed militants from either near, or across the Turkish-Syrian border. It is unclear whether a significant number of additional militants are on their way.
....

An Invasion, Not an Uprising

The second narrative is discerned not from official Syrian government talking points, but from a more critical examination of the Western media's own reports, which exposes what is instead, indeed a pro-Syrian Army, pro-Syria city being overrun by so-called "Free Syrian Army" militants pouring in from two specific points - Aleppo's northeast facing Azaz, and Aleppo's northwest facing Bab al-Hawa. Militants emanating from these directions come from areas directly across from the Turkish border.

We know this, because BBC and other Western networks rode in with the militants on their way to Aleppo. One report, by BBC's Ian Pannell, describes how he came in on just such a convoy. Clearly, these are not "sons of Aleppo" rising up.

The offensive was coordinated with an assassination bombing and a similar militant assault on Damascus - timed so closely with the UN Security Council vote, the vote was pushed back a day only to be vetoed by Russia and China, with Pakistan and South Africa abstaining in protest of the US-UK backed resolution.

It appears that the operation in Damascus was expected to last longer and cause more chaos amongst the ranks of the Syrian military. It also looks like a large psychological operation planned by NATO was attempted, but failed, or pushed back at the very least - one involving the seizing of Syrian broadcasting and replacing it with false reports of the government's imminent demise. The lightning fast defeat of FSA militants in Damascus lent the Syrian people and their army a morale boost, instead of the psychological defeat NATO had intended to deal.

With Damascus secured and slowly returning back to normal, all eyes have fixated on Aleppo. The Western media is now portraying security operations in the city as "brutal" with verified lies of "Russian-made MIGs" "bombing" civilian populations being spread. With FSA militants seemingly trapped in the center of the city, and with the Syrian Army allegedly bringing in reinforcements, the Western media has attempted to portray what was a militant infiltration of the city, as instead, an invasion of Syrian military forces against "city defenders."

How to "Liberate" a Pro-Army, Pro-Syrian City - Use Terrorism, Brutality, Intimidation

Also discerned from the Western media's own reports is just how the FSA is trying to "liberate" Aleppo. BBC's Ian Pannell claims militants are attempting to "extend their control" while "seeking revenge." His narrative is accompanied by video footage of FSA militants rounding up what he claims are "suspected shabiha," kicking them and firing weapons at their feet. The fate of these unarmed, terrorized men is never revealed by BBC, and Pannell excuses the FSA's behavior by claiming, "there is little justice on either side."

Image: From BBC's Ian Pannell - young men "suspected" of being "Shabiha" are rounded up as the FSA "seeks revenge." BBC fails categorically to explain how NATO-backed terrorists can "liberate" a city that is admittedly pro-government - but it appears it will be done through terrorism, brutality, mass murder, and intimidation.

....

CNN also adds inadvertently contradictory facts to their fallacious narrative. In an article titled, "Faces of the Free Syrian Army," we are treated with a grossly unsubstantiated narrative, seemingly meant to counter evidence reported on by outlets such as French intellectual Thierry Meyssan's VoltaireNet. VoltaireNet's article, "Who is Fighting in Syria?" reveals that the FSA's ranks consist of mostly radicalized gangs, many not even Syrian. Further more, the article points out that the Syrian Army is conscripted from amongst the nation's citizens. It is a "people's army."

CNN's article, despite attempting to allay fears that the FSA consists of foreign terrorists, still admits:
Meanwhile, residents of the village where the Syrian Falcons were headquartered said there were fighters of several North African nationalities also serving with the brigade's ranks.

A volunteer Libyan fighter has also told CNN he intends to travel from Turkey to Syria within days to add a "platoon" of Libyan fighters to armed movement.

Clearly, foreign-armed militants storming a city, many of whom are not even citizens of Syria, is not a "liberation," but rather an invasion. Especially when these foreign fighters are facing an army conscripted from the Syrian people themselves.

And as with any invasion, a degree of "shock and awe" is required to create the necessary fear and panic in order to subjugate the invaded.  The atrocities BBC alludes to reaffirm reports from both Human Rights Watch and the UN describing widespread war crimes carried out by the FSA. This, above all else, is how they "take" and "hold" territory, especially in areas where the Syrian Army enjoys widespread support, like in Aleppo.

This is not "liberation," this is terrorism and invasion.

BBC Rides with Al Qaeda in Aleppo, Syria

BBC Covers Up War Crimes - Misleads Over Syrian Security Operations.
by Tony Cartalucci

July 25, 2012 - When big lies must be told, BBC is there. From Iraq to Afghanistan to Libya and now Syria, BBC has paved the way for Western disinformation meant to mange public perception around a war the public would otherwise never support or tolerate.

The BBC, caught on record producing entire "documentaries" on behalf of corporate-financier interests, has already been caught in immense lies regarding the NATO-fueled destabilization of Syria. This includes the disingenuous use of photos from Iraq, to depict a so-called "massacre" in the village of Houla, Syria.

Now, as NATO's Al Qaeda mercenaries operating under the banner of the so-called "Free Syrian Army" flow over the Turkish-Syrian border in an attempt to overrun the city of Aleppo, BBC is there, attempting to manipulate the public's perception as the conflict unfolds.

BBC's Ian Pannell admits he rode with a convoy of milatnt fighters into Aleppo at night. He claims many are desperate for the FSA to succeed, "clamoring for freedom denied by their president," but concedes many others fear an "Islamic takeover" and sectarian "division and bloodshed." The latter of course, is self-evident, while the former is the repeated, unfounded mantra of the Western media used to cover up the latter.

Pannell poses amongst staged settings, claiming a single burning tire equates to a barricade set up by the militants (see more on the use of burning tires as propaganda here and here). He concedes that militants are taking to the rooftops with sniper rifles in the districts they claim they control - begging one to wonder where else terrorist snipers have been, and how many "sniper" deaths have been mistakenly blamed on the government.

Covering Up FSA War Crimes

Pannell then attempts to cover up serious war crimes committed by the FSA militants he is traveling with, claiming that men the FSA arbitrarily rounded up while "seeking revenge" were "suspected Shabiha," harking back to Libya's NATO-backed terrorist death squads rounding up and killing Libya's black communities in orgies of sectarian genocide - which outlets like the BBC defended as simply rebels targeting "suspected African mercenaries." Pannell papers over what he just reported with the unqualified claim that there is "little justice" on either side. What became of the FSA's victims is not revealed.

Image: From BBC's Ian Pannell - young men "suspected" of being "Shabiha" are rounded up as the FSA "seeks revenge." BBC fails categorically to explain how NATO-backed terrorists can "liberate" a city that is admittedly pro-government - but it appears it will be done through terrorism, brutality, mass murder, and intimidation.
....

BBC reporter Ian Pannell's failure to report on the war crimes he admitted witnessing, smacks of endorsement and complicity - an attempt to preserve the romanticism the West has desperately tried to associate with their FSA death squads. Pannell's report also confirms earlier descriptions of widespread atrocities committed by the so-called "Free Syrian Army."

In Libya, when the government of Muammar Qaddafi collapsed, and as Libyan terrorists overran the last of the nation's security forces, entire cities of Libya's blacks were overrun, their populations either mass-murdered, imprisoned, or forced to flee to refugee camps. These are people who had lived in Libya for generations. A similar fate awaits Syrians should NATO prevail.

BBC Confirms Syrian Army Use of Heavy Weapons ARE Proportional to FSA Threats

Pannell's propaganda in Aleppo continues, where he admits FSA militants possess tanks they allegedly "captured" from the Syrian military, but then, showing video of what is either an anti-tank SU-25 aircraft or an Aero L-39 Albatros training jet, rolling in with machine guns, claims it marks a "dramatic escalation" and a sign of "desperation."

Image: From BBC's Ian Pannell -FSA tanks are positioned in or around Aleppo, according to BBC. The myth that NATO-backed militants are "lightly armed" is unraveling as they attempt to take on large cities flush with cameras and media from both sides. Eager propagandists attempting to portray victories have more than once shown "captured tanks" in the hands of militants. Heavy militant weapons beget heavy government weapons.
....

In reality the Syrian army is using force directly proportional to the threats NATO-backed militants have presented. Tanks and heavy weapons mounted on trucks, also featured in the BBC report, are legitimate targets for government heavy weapons. The precision an SU-25 or other ground attack aircraft lend the battlefield versus heavy artillery bombardments when neutralizing FSA heavy weapons is the only conceivable way to minimize civilian casualties.

Images: (Top) From BBC's Ian Pannell - BBC and other Western media outlets have claimed "MIGs" are bombing Aleppo's civilian populations. This all based on a single "tweet" made by BBC's Ian Pannell. Pannell now reports this video depicts what he saw - which in reality is either an anti-tank SU-25 or Aero L-39 deploying machine guns, not bombs, versus what Pannell already admits are FSA heavy weapons, not civilian populations. (Bottom) Several orthographic views of the SU-25 and Aero L-39 for comparison.
....

And as the Western media is so found of reminding its viewers, Aleppo is decidedly pro-government, and pro-President Bashar al-Assad. Therefore to indiscriminately use disproportionate force serves no purpose for the Syrian government, who has gone through extraordinary lengths and placed its soldiers at great risk to minimize damage to the city and its inhabitants - a city and population that serves both an important role economically and culturally for all Syrian people.

Remember Fallujah, Iraq

A government is put in a difficult position when armed gangs enter a city "seeking revenge" as BBC's Ian Pannell puts it, when these gangs have trucks mounted with heavy weapons as well as tanks in their possession. For the West, to berate the Syrian government and portray its security operations as unmitigated "brutality" is disingenuous at best, especially considering the militants are there solely because of years of financial, military, and political support from the US, Israel, and the Gulf State despots.

File:US Navy 041108-M-8205V-006 An air strike is called in on a suspected insurgent hideout at the edge of Fallujah, Iraq by U.S. Marines assigned K Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, during the openin.jpg

Image: Western hypocrisy - Fallujah, Iraq in 2004 was bombarded by artillery and airstrikes for weeks leading up to the final invasion. When over 10,000 troops entered the city, they were accompanied by tanks, and supported by heavy artillery and airstrikes. When the West is subjugating others, heavy weapons seems acceptable - but not when another nation attempts to defend itself from admittedly Western-backed terrorists.
....

The West might want to also revisit the lessons it learned from flattening the Iraqi city of Fallujhah, twice. The US bombarded the city for weeks prior to its final invasion in 2004, where over 10,000 troops entered with heavy artillery and air support. Apparently it is acceptable for the West to subjugate others using such tactics, but nations are prohibited from using similar tactics to defend themselves. The Syrian uprising was a foreign-plot stretching back as far as 2007, foreign militants admittedly flowing over the border from across the Arab World, admittedly armed and funded by the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.

The Battle of Fullujah is considered a notch in the belt of Western military prowess, while the West condemns Syria's attempts to defend one of its most important cities from foreign-subversion and destruction. While NATO believes it can still win the geopolitical battle it is waging against the Syrian people, it has already long lost the battle for moral superiority.

In Syria, Obama Fights Bush's Wars

Syrian Opposition Signs Pro-War Neo-Con Letter to Obama.
by Tony Cartalucci

July 24, 2012 - Neo-Conservatives have "called on" US President Barack Obama to assist in the establishment of "safe zones" inside of Syria in a recent letter published by the "Foreign Policy Initiative" (FPI) and the "Foundation for the Defense of Democracies" (FDD). Both faux-institutions are corporate, foundation, and government funded clearinghouses, extensions of larger think-tanks like the American Enterprise Institute, for corporate-financier driven agendas, more specifically, wars. They serve the sole purpose of manufacturing consensus behind an agenda that has little or no support within the general public.

The letter covered by Foreign Policy's article, "Conservatives call on Obama to establish ‘safe zones’ in Syria," not only parrots Fortune 500-funded Brookings Institution's report, "Assessing Options for Regime Change," recently repeated almost verbatim by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, but was signed by co-conspirators in the invasion of Iraq including Elliott Abrams, Karl Rove, Paul Bremer, Robert Joseph, and Douglas Feith, along with advisors to the Mitt Romney, including Eric Edelman, Jamie Fly, Robert Kagan, and Stephen Rademaker, as well as Syrian National Council member, Radwah Ziadeh.

Radwah Ziadeh, it should be remembered, is also a "senior fellow" of the US State Department's US Institute for Peace (USIP) which has just revealed it is behind training, coaching, and tutoring Syria's opposition leaders as well as preparing Syria's new constitution, currently being called a, "transition strategy document."

Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of the Neo-Cons' letter is that it essentially calls for a no-fly zone:

We urge you to take immediate steps, in close and continuing consultation with the Congress, to work with regional partners to establish air-patrolled "safe zones" covering already liberated areas within Syria, using military power not only to protect these zones from further aggression by the Assad regime's military and irregular forces, but also to neutralize the threat posed by the Syrian dictatorship's chemical and biological weapons.
Basically an amalgamation of every false pretext the United States has used to wage war upon its enemies in the last 20 years, and the dirty tricks used to inch Americans into another war, the letter reveals who is once again behind US foreign policy, and that warmongering, corporate-financier interests, not humanitarian concerns, seek to spend American blood and treasure in their pursuit of global hegemony.

It has been covered extensively that the campaign against Syria began as early as 2007, during the Bush administration. With this list of signatories (at bottom), which also includes Paula Dobriansky, Max Boot, Eric Edelman, William Kristol, and Danielle Pletka, we literally have 2007's agenda coming full circle, and leaving us at the doorstep of war with Iran. In essence, our so-called Democratic, progressive-liberal President Obama, is fighting our so-called Republican Neo-Conservative former-President Bush's wars. Wars plural, because Libya was also on the long list of nations targeted by the Neo-Conservatives - and was also the subject of a letter to President Obama (and one to House Republicans) urging him to intervene militarily - which the US did.

Video: Seven nations, five years - US Army General Wesley Clark exposes in 2007 Neo-Conservative ambitions dating back to 2001, that involved the destruction of seven nations: Iraq, Syria Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Iran. That Iraq, Libya, and Somalia have suffered direct military intervention by the United States, with Lebanon and Sudan having suffered and Syria now suffering covert destabilization, and open threats of war being made against Iran, there is no doubt that this plan is underway. That the Neo-Cons are literally articulating the next leg, in letters to the US president, indicates that they and the interests they represent, never left the driver's seat in 2008.
....

Syria is not about its people rising up against a dictator. It is about neo-imperialists couching their long-harbored dreams of global hegemony within the ideals of humanitarianism, democracy promotion, freedom - and if that fails, fearmongering over terrorism and violence of their own design. They, the Neo-Cons and the corporate-financier interests they present, along with their willing helpers on both sides of the aisle, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, constitute the greatest threat to world peace - not the government and people of Syria who have not once threatened the US and its people in any conceivable way, nor possesses the capacity to do so if they desired.

And while the West's megalomania may only be sated by defeat at the hands of their enemies abroad, we may yet reclaim our destiny at home by identifying, boycotting, and replacing the monolithic corporations and financial institutions that have so lent them the unwarranted influence with which they plague the world.

Clinton's Syria Policy Parrots Fortune 500 Think-Tank

Brookings' "Middle East Memo #21" quoted almost verbatim as US begins 'plan B' for regime change in Syria.
by Tony Cartalucci

Editor's Note: Brookings has since taken down Middle East Memo #21 - it has been reposted by Land Destroyer here in its entirety

July 24, 2012 - US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton today regarding the ongoing violence in Syria:

"We have to work closely with the opposition, because more and more territory is being taken and it will eventually result in a safe haven inside Syria that will then provide a base for further actions by the opposition."
-Reuters, July 24, 2012

Fortune 500-funded Brookings Institution's Assessing Options for Regime Change" (.pdf) report (emphasis added):

"An alternative is for diplomatic efforts to focus first on how to end the violence and how to gain humanitarian access, as is being done under Annan’s leadership. This may lead to the creation of safe-havens and humanitarian corridors, which would have to be backed by limited military power. This would, of course, fall short of U.S. goals for Syria and could preserve Asad in power. From that starting point, however, it is possible that a broad coalition with the appropriate international mandate could add further coercive action to its efforts."
-page 4, Assessing Options for Regime Change (.pdf), Brookings Institution, March 2012.

Image: Brookings Institution's, Middle East Memo #21 "Assessing Options for Regime Change (.pdf)," makes no secret that the humanitarian "responsibility to protect" is but a pretext for long-planned regime change.

....

Quite clearly the Syrian government is not teetering as the West has claimed. What's also clear is, US foreign policy is not created or shaped by the American people, nor their elected representatives. But aside from the United States' belligerent and floundering foreign policy being dictated by unelected policy wonks, funded by the corporate-financier interests of Wall Street and London, Clinton's parroting of Brookings' report indicates that Syria's current crisis is about to be compounded, not resolved, and as a direct result of further Western meddling.

Image: Some of the corporate sponsors behind the Brookings Institution, from whose playbook US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is reading. (click image to enlarge)
....

The script Secretary Clinton is reading from, "Assessing Options for Regime Change" published in March 2012, also made mention of supplying weapons to militants fighting the Syrian government to "bleed" the nation, perpetually keeping a "regional adversary" weak:

"The United States might still arm the opposition even knowing they will probably never  have  sufficient power, on their own, to dislodge the Asad network. Washington might choose to do so simply in the belief that at least providing an oppressed people with some ability to resist their oppressors is better than doing nothing at all, even if the support provided has little chance of turning defeat into victory. Alternatively, the United States might calculate that it is still worthwhile to pin down the Asad regime and bleed it, keeping a regional adversary weak, while avoiding the costs of direct intervention."
-pages 8-9, Assessing Options for Regime Change, Brookings Institution.

This callous malevolent conspiracy, runs contra to all the rhetoric the United States has thus far used to justify its involvement in Syria, which in reality stretches back at least as early as 2007, and indicates what will happen in case Madam Secretary is unable to carve out, and dust off a seat for her US State Department-run "Syrian National Council" to rule from atop.

Readers are encouraged to read the entire Brookings report (.pdf) so as to better understand events unfolding in Syria and how they are driven not by "democracy promotion," but by long-planned regime-change being executed by and for the corporate-financier interests of the Fortune 500. Readers are also encouraged to identify, expose, boycott, and replace the corporate-financier interests using the people of the West to subjugate the people of the East, for their own interests and aspirations toward global hegemony.
